Tests: Grammar in discourse, cohesion, reference, fixed phrases.

Part 3 · Word Formation

Form the word that fits each gap from the root.

Tests: Prefixes, suffixes, internal change, register, word families.

Part 4 · Key Word Transformations

Complete the second sentence so it means the same, using the key word — 3 to 6 words.

Part 5 · Multiple Choice (Reading)

Answer detailed comprehension questions on a long text.

Tests: Detail, opinion, attitude, tone, purpose, inference, implication.

Part 6 · Cross-text Multiple Matching

Match prompts to the writer who expresses a given view.

Tests: Comparing opinions and attitudes across writers.

Part 7 · Gapped Text

Choose from 7 paragraphs (one extra) to fill each gap.

Tests: Cohesion, coherence, reference, discourse signposts.

Part 8 · Multiple Matching (Reading)

Match prompts to the section that mentions / refers to them.

Tests: Locating specific information, opinion, attitude — scanning at speed.
